Over the weekend, sixty-six (66) teenagers took part in a camping trip they will never forget.
From February 4 to 6, the St. Mark’s Couples for Christ-Youth for Christ (or YFC) held its annual entry camp and the theme was “Living on a Prayer”. Forty-five participants, from ages 13-18, were initiated into the religious group. Along with 21 original YFC youths, who were part of the service team, the new members were treated to three days of holiness which was achieved through YFC’s principle of four ‘f’s: fun, friendship, faith and freedom.
The camp started with a Mass (a custom for the YFC which always begins its’ activities with God) celebrated by Father Ofa. Then the participants played fun games where they got to know each other, making new friends in the process!
There were a lot of fun and games, but the whole camp was centered on values-enrichment ‘talks’; which made the youths know more about their God and strengthen their faith. Talk #1 was titled, “God’s Love and His Plan For Us”. Talk #2 was “Who is Jesus Christ To Me?”, Talk #3 was called “Repentance and Faith”, “Receiving the Holy Spirit” was talk #4 and the fifth and final talk was called “Growing in the Spirit”. Each talk was explained by YFC leader, and more members shared their own life stories which relates to the talk. After every session, the participants were also given a chance to share their own stories through group discussions. Participants were formed into groups based on gender and age. They were placed in the same room so as to strengthen their bond with one another.
This YFC camp is for the East Auckland Chapter only; more groups are based in the North, West, Central and South parts of Auckland. The St. Mark’s YFC is now actively participating in various functions in the Saint Mark’s Parish community life. Its’ key mission: to enrich the faith of the youths of today and help in building their relationship with their family, community and especially with God.
